Vintage Fortified Petit Verdot is something a little different from the Liebichwein cellar. A bold vintage fortified wine crafted from 100% Petit Verdot grapes grown on the Liebich property in southern Barossa Valley. Petit Verdot isn’t your typical grape for fortifieds, but we love it for its intense colour, firm tannins and rich dark fruit which are ideal for producing a wine with serious power and long ageing potential.
This is a Vintage Port-style fortified (‘VP’ for short), meaning it’s bottled early after fermentation to capture vibrant fruit character with grape spirit added to stop fermentation and retain the essence of the fruit. Expect deep flavours of black cherry, plum, dark chocolate and aniseed, with structure to evolve beautifully over time in bottle.
It’s a completely different experience to a Tawny, which is aged in barrel for years and develops nutty, oxidative characters. P.V.V.P. is all about freshness, fruit weight and depth, with the potential to soften and gain complexity over bottle ageing. Enjoy it now with dark chocolate desserts or a strong blue cheese, or let it rest in your cellar and see how it matures.
