Retro-style label first used by original Liebich family winery Rovalley Wines in 1967. Label now refreshed for the first old vine Cabernet Shiraz blend to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Liebichwein cellar door, and the last red release from this brand.
Liebichwein First & Last is a classic red blend that has lasted the distance just like the winery. Premium old vine fruit from Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz vines planted in 1969 by Clarence Walter “Darkie” Liebich on the Liebich property in Rowland Flat, Barossa Valley.
Traditionally hand plunged, basket pressed, and unfiltered to retain natural fruit characters. Maturation for 24 months in various aged French vosques and nevers oak barrels has perfectly balanced the seductive fruit and produced a complex wine.
The wine exhibits deep dark cherries and blackberries with sweet spices. The exceptional fruit intensity is enhanced by the extremely low yield of 1 tonne per acre, in a very good growing season in vintage 2012. Soft wood tannins integrate with the fruit from nose to palate with lingering fruit flavours. A complex full-bodied wine in the Liebichwein premium range.
