Leveret Shiraz 2014

Tasting Notes

What is a Leveret you may ask?

It is the French term for a baby hare, which narrowly escapes being run over by the tractor from row to row. Ron chose the name back in 1999 after seeing our Cairn Terrier chase many a hare amongst the vines.

We are proud to present the 2014 Leveret Shiraz. Lovers of rich and juicy Barossa Shiraz won?t be disappointed.

This single vineyard Barossa Shiraz was grown on 24 year old vines in the eastern foothills of Rowland Flat, where heavier red brown black soils predominate.

Traditional techniques of hand plunging, basket-pressing and bottling without fining or filtration, all help to preserve the essence of fruit. Maturation for 24 months in seasoned American and French oak has delivered a complex wine with fruit-forward flavours, subtle oak influence and well-integrated tannins.

Enjoy now and for at least 10 years, particularly with red meats and richly flavoured foods. This wine?was bottled in screw cap to immortalise the magnificent flavours beyond the life span of cork.

New Release Red Blend: Grenache Mataro Shiraz 2012

GMS 2012 front label proof

Grenache red blend released! Our first ever GMS blend of classic Barossa varietals all grown on the Liebich property.?Usually all our Grenache fruit goes into making fortified wine to keep our barrels topped up with fresh wine for our bulk blends. 2012 was such a great season in the Barossa we thought it was time to introduce an easy drinking lighter bodied wine into the range, just in time for warmer weather. All the Grenache fruit is grown on bush vines which also makes for a flavoursome base wine.

Each fruit parcel was hand plunged and basket-pressed, then spent 15 months in seasoned American and French oak, before being bottled without fining or filtration to help encapsulate the fruit essences.?Grenache dominates the blend with lifted red berries and Mataro adds a spicy savoury backbone. The Shiraz component adds depth and suppleness to the wine.

A seductive medium-bodied wine from the wonderful 2012 vintage.?Ready to be enjoyed for picnics, barbeques and moments where lighter reds are called for.

Blend: Grenache 70%, Mataro 20%, Shiraz 10%

Released October 2013. RRP $22 per bottle.
