It?s the most exciting time of the year for our winemaker Ron.
Vintage finally arrived after a longer wait than usual in the Barossa Valley. The growing conditions in 2017 are shaping up to be?perfect for ?even grape ripeness and maximising natural flavours.
In?Liebichwein vineyards, the crops are average to just about average for all grape varieties. Overall fruit quality is above average for Vintage 2017 due to the milder summer and good rainfall before Christmas. Ron Liebich is pleased to report that it’s looking to be a fantastic year for fortified winemaking!

What we will bring to the Cellar Door Fest?
We will bring something to suit every palate. We are likely to attract sweet tooths for our luscious aged fortifieds made from four grape varieties. People love the 10 year old Semillon which tastes like sticky toffee pudding. Lovers of quality red wines will be in for a treat as we are pouring a special museum 2008 The Darkie Shiraz and 2006 The Lofty Cabernet Sauvignon.?Be the first to taste these?our newly released fortified wine Raisin Apera.
Why we take part?
Being open 6 days a week doesn?t leave a lot of time to venture off the property to spend time in the city. This event provides an opportunity to meet a wide range of wine lovers all in one convenient location. We?d like to share our passion for food and wine and the amazing lifestyle we are blessed with in South Australia. We have thoroughly enjoyed past events we were involved with.
Since we have over 14 grape varieties to choose from we are faced with a range of options at vintage as to what styles to make. 2014 was an excellent year for our whites so we produced these two aromatic beauties, one in a crisp dry style and the other sweet and succulent.
NEW RELEASE WHITE WINES ? – ??MARCH 2015
2014 Viognier
This Rhone variety is thriving in the Barossa climate. Viognier is?rather vigorous in the vineyard and seems to have taken well to our heavy/clay soils. In recent years Ron has reinvigorated his passion for white winemaking by exploring the limits of this wonderful adaptable variety. The last 2013 vintage was a lighter body low alcohol style with similar tropical and quince flavours that the 2014 has produced.?Ron made the conscious decision to keep it completely unoaked to capture the essence of the variety.?The luscious palate pairs well with grilled seafood and richly flavoured foods.
Taste Notes: A fresh unwooded style?using gentle basket pressing and cool fermentation to capture?the stunning peach, pineapple and quince flavours.

2014 Riesling Traminer?Late Picked
Our late picked Traminer Riesling has been a staple in our range since 1993 when we released our first version dedicated to Ron’s mother Lorna Liebich (1917-1997) who always appreciated a sweet drop.?This succulent blend of Riesling (66%) with Gew?rztraminer (34%) delivers a beautiful bouquet with a succulent palate. It will reward cellaring and improve in depth, flavour and complexity developing candied citrus and honey flavours.? Enjoy this wine as an aperitif, with a dessert, or with a delicately spiced curry.
Taste Notes: A delicate style with a?perfumed bouquet of musk and citrus blossom. The sweet palate is balanced by low alcohol and fresh natural acidity.
We want to thank those who came out to dine with us at Bramble & Vine in North Carlton. It was a relaxed evening with 30 guests enjoying sophisticated food and a diverse range of wines. Our hostess Leila was a genuine professional who made sure everyone felt welcome and their glass was always full. The evening kicked off with a tasting of all our current wines and the launch of The Darkie Shiraz 2006 (vintage number 12 of this flagship wine!). During dinner we surprised guests by serving the 2002 Lofty and Darkie which are holding up extremely well, especially under screw cap. Everyone had a great night!
We are hosting a special event in Melbourne on Wednesday 22nd May.
A rare chance for Janet and Ron to personally meet with customers both old and new and to launch The Darkie Shiraz 2006 which completes a vertical dozen of this flagship wine.
We will be bringing over a selection of new release and museum wines from the Liebichwein portfolio from over two decades. Wines will be expertly matched to each course to extend your knowledge, engage your palate and enhance your enjoyment of the food and wine.
