Beautiful Barossa in Winter

A magical spot where you feel on top of the world.

This view is high up in the Barossa Ranges between Steingarten Road and Trial Hill Road. The ‘Steingarten’ (meaning stone garden) vineyard was planted in the 1960’s by the Gramp family who were inspired by the narrow vineyards planted on stoney ground in areas of Northern Germany.

To see for yourself, ask in cellar door for directions and you’ll be blown away (quite literally in winter) in only a few minutes drive from our cellar door.

Our backyard is stunning during winter!

Barossa Wine Show Trophy Win

We’re absolutely thrilled with results from the Barossa Wine Show 2018. Ron has outdone himself picking up a Trophy for Museum Fortified for the second year in a row. Rare Tawny was crowned Best Museum Red Fortified. Last year saw Rare Semillon get a similar honour in the Best Museum White Fortified Class.

All entries from around the Barossa region were such high calibre, we’re proud to be among the same company. Congratulations to all other medal and trophy winners.

Other Liebichwein medal winners:

  • Rare Frontignac = SILVER (yet to be released)
  • 2018 Vintage Fortified Petit Verdot (baby VP – yet to be released) = BRONZE
  • Classic Muscat = BRONZE
  • Lovely Sparkling Pinot Noir NV = BRONZE

Barossa Winter Storm Looked Like Snow

In the depths of winter in Barossa Valley. It’s always cold and wet, but it usually never snows. On 12th July 2016 a sudden hail storm passed through Rowland Flat and surrounding towns leaving snow-like trails. This was nothing compared to the hail that fell exactly four years ago to the day in a bizarre coincidence. The freak hail storm in 2012 only affected a very narrow band of the Barossa Ranges including our property on Steingarten Road, Rowland Flat. It hailed so much in 2012, it really did look like snow!

Barossa Gourmet Weekend 2014: Just Desserts & Fortified

Sunday 17th August 2014

We were excited to be hosting this intimate indulgent treat as part of Barossa Gourmet Weekend.?A?sell-out crowd were taken behind the scenes of the world of fortified wine covering the grape varieties, barrel ageing, food matching and most importantly the sensory experience.

Guests enjoyed an afternoon master class hosted by Ron Liebich and his daughter Briony.

The Tasting

A series of Grenache-based tawnys of different ages were compared to show how varietal flavours and woody flavours integrate and develop into complex liqueur wines. We tasted Ruby Grenache (1 year old), Classic Old Barossa (10 years), 20th Anniversary Tawny (20 years).

Matching Fortified with Desserts

Briony works as a Sensory Analyst and provided insights into basic taste interactions and why we love sweet flavours. The desserts were prepared by local chef Kate Harbison using as many local ingredients as possible. The desserts inspired by French cuisine as Ron and Janet had the privilege of visiting France this year.

Here are the wines and desserts served as complementary pairings:

Pairing #1

Classic Muscat ?- Apricot Frangipane Tart with Jersey cream

Pairing #2

Classic Frontignac ? Wine-spiced poached pear with cinnamon quince glaze

Pairing #3

Classic Semillon ? Cr?me brulee cheesecake with vanilla-infused orange slice

Pairing #4

Grand Tawny ? Choux puffs and port-soaked prune creme anglaise with dark chocolate sauce

Thanks to everyone who attended and assisted with this true sweet indulgence!
