Our flagship old vine Shiraz dedicated to my uncle Clarence Walter “Darkie” Liebich (1920-1988) who encouraged my winemaking abilities. He planted the 40 acre block on heavy biscay soil on the eastern foothills of the Barossa Ranges in 1969. The vines receive minimal attention and allow nature to do the work. Uncle "Darkie" had dark skin complexion and jet black hair, hence his nickname in the family.

Vintage 2010 was an outstanding season with moderate yield of 2.2 tonne/acre. Traditional techniques of hand plunging and basket-pressing with no fining or filtration all enhance flavour.

This special museum release has matured over five years in various aged American and French hogsheads, producing a multi-layered wine. The bottle version has been cellared carefully to preserve the intense fruity characteristics and ripe tannins.

A complex classic Barossa Shiraz. Dark brooding nose full of black cherries and chocolate mingled with sweet spiced vanilla. Amazingly complex concentrated flavours linger long after the first sip. All this is perfectly balanced with the subtle oak maturation and ripe tannins that have developed into a wonderfully silky mouthfeel. A full-bodied red to pair with hearty dishes like braised beef, black bean dishes and hotpots.

Exceptional drinking now for bottles sealed with cork. Bottles sealed with screwcap have cellaring potential for another 5-10 years.
