The Potter’s Merlot 2012

Premium single vineyard Merlot full of ripe mulberries with a seductive and smooth palate after extended ageing in older French oak barrels. All fruit is 100% Merlot grown on the Liebich property from a vineyard planted in 1989 by Ron Liebich.

The wine’s name is a tribute to Master Potter, Samuel Hoffmann, who settled on the property in 1848. Samuel gathered local clays, moulded pots in a home-made brick kiln, then loaded the wagon and sold them in surrounding villages. Remains of his activities can be found today as shards, but alas, very few whole pots still exist.

This wine was traditionally hand plunged, basket pressed. All Liebich reds are not fined and unfiltered to retain natural fruit characters so they are vegan friendly. Maturation for 24 months in various aged French vosques and nevers oak barrels has resulted in a full-bodied and complex wine.

2012 was an outstanding vintage producing a low yield and fruit with opulent sweet and sour mulberry and pomegranate flavours. Soft wood tannins integrate with the fruit from nose to palate. A complex medium-bodied wine in the Liebichwein premium range.

Exceptional drinking now or will reward long term cellaring.
